Acupuncture in Annapolis MD

Acupuncture in Annapolis MD is a calm and relaxing experience that stimulates various systems of the body to help you achieve complete health and wellness. It is a form of medicine that dates back thousands of years. Beginning in China, acupuncture is now used commonly all over the world. Acupuncture utilizes many modalities, including the placement of very thin needles, to stimulate acupuncture points across the body. Through the stimulation of the points, the body responds by sending healing to the affected areas.

  • Chinese Herbs and Acupuncture

Chinese herbs are commonly prescribed as a stand-alone, or in conjunction with acupuncture treatments. Chinese herbs are almost always prescribed in a formula with an average of ten herbs. The combination of herbs is what makes them so specific to your individual needs. They may be consumed raw as tea, in granules, or in pill form. Since they also work at the root cause, they are used for a wide variety of symptoms.

    • Headaches
    • Osteoarthritis
    • Throbbing Pain
    • Stiffness
    • Digestive Issues
    • Menstrual cramps
  • CUPPING

Cupping is also an ancient form of medicine that dates back to both China and Africa. Cupping involves the placement of glass, plastic, or silicone cups over areas of the body. Physically, cupping releases fascia but it also moves blood and stagnation, improving circulation and healing to that area.

  • MOXA

Moxa is short for "moxibustion" and involves the smoldering of the herb mugwort over acupuncture points in the body. Moxa provides warmth to the body, builds up deficiencies, and helps with promoting healing.

  • Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a modality that involves scraping a tool, that is usually made of jade, over areas of the body. This can be used to manually move through tensions and muscle knots and to clear heat and inflammation. Historically it has been used to heal colds and illness as well.

  • Acupuncture Provider

Sometimes with young children, or people sensitive to needles, tools such as pressure point seeds, acupressure, and essential oils are used in place of needles or in addition to them. Often, patients are sent home with pressure point beads or seeds to help the treatment last longer.

EFFECTIVE CARE

Can you imagine how effective a health care discipline must be to stand the test of time for hundreds of generations? With a large portion of the media and research focusing their attention on the newest surgeries and medications, valuable and essential forms of health care are being forgotten. With acupuncture being practiced as a medical system for over 2400 years, its safety and effectiveness has been proven time and time again.

As mentioned earlier, acupuncture has been practiced as a system of medicine for over 2400 years, but its philosophy and roots predate recorded history. In fact, it is believed that acupuncture was first performed using needles that were actually formed from grinding stones into fine points. As time progressed, the first text describing acupuncture as a system of medicine was produced around 300 B.C. (The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine). Soon after its introduction, finely crafted metal needles replaced the stone variety and it has been recorded that royalty routinely used gold and silver needles.

With all the toxins present in our various environments, it is important that our bodies are well suited to interact and deal with each challenge that we face. While traditional and western explanations of acupuncture vary, each fundamentally deals with acclimating our body to our surroundings. After thousands of years of research, various points across the body have been located that have a significant impact on our bodies overall physiology.
